On Tuesday Sara from @agirlaboutchicago hosted a dinner at the lovely Piazza Bella Trattoria and this little panda was lucky enough to be invited!! :D

Piazza Bella is quietly located in the Roscoe Village area, and as they explained at the end of the evening, this location allows them to offer a beautiful selection of wines for price points you might not find downtown. The inside is really pretty with brick walls and soft lighting which provides a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. I imagine this would be a great place for a date but I don't think they'd let me bring my 30 cats... :P

We were treated to seven courses, which were all paired with thoughtful wine selections. I don't know very much about wine, but I find that I'm starting to appreciate it more and more as I become more exposed to different varietals and types. My favorite of the evenings were the Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio and the Mionetto Prosecco Lux because, hey, bubbles!

Everything was delicious, and there wasn't a single thing I was unsure of or didn't like. Highlights included the beet salad and scallops. The beets had a lemon marinade which really made them stand out, and I love burrata ANYTHING so this was by default a winner for me. The scallops were paired with a red (surprise!) and it was delicious! I also loved the raising and pine nuts they were paired with, pine nuts are something I love but don't eat very often.

By the time we got the pappardelle I was getting close to full, so I nibbled a bit on the noodles and wished I could eat them all. Piazza makes their noodles fresh every morning and you can totally taste this in their pasta. The filet mignon was super tender, just perfect. Everything was just so good.

The staff were also very friendly and informative with their selections and happy to answer any questions we had about the meal. You can tell they really stand behind their kitchen and are enthusiastic about what they offer.

The panna cotta dessert was a beautiful finish to the meal, and even though I was already super stuffed I still found myself scraping the bottom of the glass to get it all. It was so smooth and silky and the Mionetto Prosecco Lux cut through it really nicely. I guess I have a second stomach for dessert...that's a thing right?

It was also super fun to see and meet other bloggers. With food based accounts you tend to become familiar with someone's handle and pictures but may not even know what they look like in real life! Such is the world of Instagram, which I find is stranger and stranger as I go. And of course meeting new friends is always fun when it's done over wine. :)

Thank you Sarah and Piazza for hosting such a great evening! Make sure to visit Piazza Bella if you're ever in the Roscoe Village area!
