Dinner at Revival Social Club
Dinner at Revival Social Club
Revival Social Club
1133 W. Granville Avenue
Hey, what’s better than a delicious dinner + drinks + dessert...?
The cutest little French Bulldogs hangin’ around outside of course!
The day I visited Revival Social Club was also the day they happened to be having a Chicago French Bulldog Rescue Event in their cute back patio. I was in heaven before I even took my first bite. :) Owners Alan Stoll & Chris Bowler have a rescue from CFBR and were happy to introduce my friend and I to their cute, furry guests.
This is a great introduction to Revival Social Club in general: it’s relaxed, friendly and happy. I think that’s always a great start to an eating experience, don’t you? It’s also right off the Red Line with parking available on the street. My friend and I ventured out for Sunday dinner and didn’t have any trouble finding a parking spot.
After managing to tear ourselves away from the puppies we sat down to eat. But what to order? There are so many good looking options! Meatballs? Wild mushroom flat bread? In the end we decided on some drinks, quesadillas, pasta, burgers, and dessert. Staff was friendly and happy to go through the menu with us, and you can tell everything here is done with personal care in an open, easy going manner.
The food arrives and we’re drooling. But first…! Pictures. I have to note here, all food withstood the crunchy test, everything was still crisp after taking a slew of pictures. I was impressed!
A low down of our meal:
Reyka vodka, house made pumpkin liqueur, Buho mezcal, vermouth bianco, lemon, orange bitters
The first thing I thought was, it’s like pumpkin juice for adults! Or at least what I imagine that might be like. (Harry Potter fan over here.) This would be a great drink for a pretty fall day, one that’s not quite cold enough for a hot toddy (Although Revival Social Club has those too!) but cool enough where you want something in line with the season. I loved it. I want another one! Haha.
Milagro Tequila Reposado, Combier, lime, agave nectar, blood orange soda
This drink was mild, but in a good way. It was very pleasant to drink. It did not taste as strong as the Smokey Hollow, but this was a good thing as my friend had to drive home. This would be a great starter drink.
Tomato basil pesto tortilla, mushroom, chile morita sauce, sour cream, pico de gallo with chicken
For all you food photographers out there, you need to order the quesadillas. The presentation for this dish is really cool, it looks like a flower..a flower made of crisp tortilla and cheese and (we chose chicken) and spicy sauce. Did you ever think quesadillas could be so beautiful!
The tortilla gives a very satisfying crunch when you bite into it, and the spicy chile sauce was DELICIOUS! My friend and I were literally fighting for swipes of sauce off the plate with our quesadilla pieces, it was so good.
Baked Mac & Cheese
Irish Cheddar, bacon, panko crusted, scallions, bourbon barbecue sauce
One of my favorites! ...Although I’m a mac & cheese fiend so this shouldn’t be surprising. Mac’n’cheese forever over here! This baked mac’n’cheese at Revival Social Club is especially delicious because it’s sprinkled with these tasty crunchy, crispy bits (panko). We both decided it really added a fun texture. I also liked the house made BBQ sauce, which is tangier rather than spicy or sweet. Altogether as far as mac’n’cheese go this one isn’t overly rich, and when you combine the melty cheese with the crunchy panko and other flavors, was just really good all around.
Fettuccine sautéed with spinach, cherry tomatoes, white wine, butter, garlic, shaved Pecorino
Velvety. Smooth. Those were the first adjectives to pop into my head when I tried the first bite.
The shrimp themselves are plump and although I prefer my shrimp cooked just a teeeeny bit more, I’m also really weird about my shrimp so maybe don’t mind me. My friend declared them delicious and, *ahem* ate more than her half. If you like garlic this is the dish for you as you can definitely taste the garlic here.
Also, if you can’t finish this and take it home for leftovers, for some reason I found it even better the next day. I was only going to eat half the take home box and then somehow I looked down and I was scraping an empty bottom??? Hey, who ate the rest when I wasn’t looking? :P
1/2 lb grass-fed beef patty, bacon, mushrooms, caramelized onion, arugula, Manchego cheese, lemon aioli, fries
My favorite!! When it comes to burgers I either love them or could leave’em. This was definitely the first. :) The burger itself was delicious, the meat was flavorful and the patty was packed perfectly, not too dense but not falling apart either. It didn’t hurt that it had almost all my favorite burger things: bacon, arugula, cheese, and mushroom. YUM! The flavors all came together perfectly. I also really enjoyed the swipe of lemon aioli on the bun, it cuts through the intensity of the other flavors and adds some brightness to your bite.
Cinnamon & sugar dough served in a cast iron skillet with caramel drizzle and vanilla ice cream
After a carb-heavy dinner naturally the last step is a carb-heavy dessert. If you’re going to go in, go all in right? This was like Cinnamon Toast Crunch taken to the next level. The caramel drizzle was on the thinner side, although I liked this because it provided more than enough to soak your bread in, especially once you bite off enough to reveal the soft chewy inside. We both detected a slight burnt taste to the sugar, but it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. At any rate the cool vanilla ice cream balanced it out and pretty much erased that observation (and any other thoughts) as soon as we tasted it. All in all, a happy end to the meal perfect for sharing.
I like Revival Social Club a lot and will definitely be back! My friend and I had a great time and both agreed we will come back soon to try out the brunch. I think this is a great place to simply hang out with friends to enjoy some great food and drinks. Next time around I’d really like to try the Cubano Sandwich and the Duck Pasilla, since I love duck. I also want to try more of the cocktails since I really loved the Smoky Hollow. It’s also great when you see the owners are so approachable and involved with the community around them. This is what makes neighborhood spots truly stand out and special.
I really recommend giving Revival Social Club a try, please let me know what you think if you go! (And bring me back some more mac’n’cheese please haha!)
